joe dean

Joe is a bass player from Santa Barbara, CA. now living in San Pedro, CA.

Joe’s first gig in Los Angeles was in 1981 at a small club called The Arena (next door to a bowling alley), with Santa Barbara band fX, opening for a solo performance by Daevid Allen of Gong. Joe drove Daevid to and from the gig, and in the early morning, on the way back from L.A. to Santa Barbara, (while the non-driving Allen gave Joe tips on driving a stick-shift car,) Joe fell asleep for a few seconds, and woke up in the adjacent lane of the Ventura highway, narrowly missing an opportunity to be responsible for this rock legends death.

Los Angeles area bands Joe has played in include Tin Brood, Noise God, Maria Silver, Christian Lunch, Constant Llama, Crawlspace, The Mooseheart Faith Stellar Groove Band, The Jack Brewer Band, Sassafras, MajicBulletTheory, Million Kids, Nostradumass, Alice Bag’s one-off band Hyptonite (part of Loteria’s first edition in 2019), and Joe’s current project, The Wrinkling Brothers, (a Drum/Bass duo with George Hurley).
